Upright Theatre Co. is holding youth auditions for their upcoming Junior Series production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10am-1pm at Upright Theatre Company in Euless, TX. Callbacks (if needed) will be on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 4:30pm.
To audition, performers are asked to fill out an online audition form and make an appointment using the links provided at the bottom of this page. Artists should bring their headshot and resume, along with a conflict calendar that can be found below.
*Please Note: Actors must be between the ages of 8-18 years old to be considered for casting.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Actors should prepare 16 bars (approx. 30-60 seconds) from a Broadway or Disney song of their choice. No accompanist will be provided, so actors are asked to submit a link with their accompaniment track prior to their audition. Singing a cappella is strongly discouraged. Auditioners will also be asked to perform a cold reading of the provided audition sides at the audition with other actors in the audition room. Audition sides do not need to be memorized and will be posted on Upright Theatre Company’s website prior to auditions.
Dance Auditions will be held from 10:00am-10:30am on Saturday, May 10 so please be prepared to attend this portion of the audition in addition to your scheduled audition time. Actors will learn a brief dance combination and perform it in groups. Please bring clothes and shoes that you can move in.
Callbacks - Thursday, May 15, 4:30pm - 6:00pm
Callbacks are invitation only, and actors will be notified if they are needed at callbacks via email. Not all who auditioned may be called back. Those who are not called back are still being considered for roles. Song cuts and sides will be made available prior to callbacks. Actors should be very familiar with the selections, but do not have to be memorized. ALL auditioners will know if they are cast by Monday, May 19.
THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. AUDITION WORKSHOP:
Upright Theatre Co. will be holding a Little Mermaid Jr. Audition Workshop on Saturday, May 3 from 4-5:30pm. During the workshop, Choreographer, Joshua Flores, will teach students a portion of the dance combination that will be used at auditions so that they will have time to practice in advance. They will also be able to bring their audition song and receive tips from our Director, Megan Guerra, and Music Directors, Noël Clark and Julian Rodriguez, on how to make their audition the best it can be! Production Materials Fee
Please note there will be a $125 Production Materials Fee for all cast members who receive a role in the production. This fee goes towards royalties, scripts, costumes, set and props for the production. Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney's The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics). Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.
In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

Prince Eric is the adventurous prince who captures Ariel's heart.

Sebastian is the meticulous and anxious crab who tries to keep Ariel safe.

Flounder
Flounder is Ariel's sincere and sensitive best friend who is loyal to the end.

King Triton
King Triton is the father to Ariel and the Mersisters. He rules the sea and is a force to be reckoned with.

Mersisters
The Mersisters (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana) are Ariel's siblings and full of personality and sass. Will double as the six Princesses.

Ursula
Ursula is the manipulative sea witch who tries to overthrow King Triton. She is cunning and devious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Tentacles
The Tentacles are extensions of Ursula, perhaps the poor unfortunate souls who are now trapped in her lair.

Flotsam
Flotsam and Jetsam are Ursula's slippery spies. These electric eels are sinister and sneaky.

Scuttle
Scuttle is the know-it-all seagull who serves as Ariel's expert on humans. He is funny and off-beat.

Grimsby is Prince Eric's prim and proper valet. He is rigid in personality and constantly trying to guide Prince Eric towards the throne.

Chef Louis
Chef Louis is the over-the-top head chef in the palace. He is always wild and frenetic.

Carlotta
Carlotta is the headmistress in Prince Eric's palace and Ariel's greatest human ally.

The six Princesses try everything they can to win the heart of Prince Eric. Will double as Mersisters.
