Upright Theatre Co. is holding youth auditions for their upcoming Junior Series production of Disney’s Aladdin JR. Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9am-12pm at Upright Theatre Company’s studio space in Euless, TX. Callbacks (if needed) will be on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 3-6pm.
To audition, artists are asked to fill out an online audition form and make an appointment using the links provided below. Artists should bring their headshot and resume, along with a conflict calendar that can be found at the bottom of this page.
*Please Note: Actors must be between the ages of 8-18 years old to be considered for casting.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Actors should prepare 16 bars (approx. 30-60 seconds) from a Broadway or Disney song of their choice, preferably by composer Alan Menken. No accompanist will be provided, so actors are asked to submit a link with their accompaniment track prior to their audition. Singing A Cappella is strongly discouraged. Auditioners are also asked to prepare one of the preselected monologues provided prior to the audition. Actors should be very familiar with the monologue, but do not have to be memorized. Auditioners may be asked to perform a cold reading at the audition with other actors in the audition room, if necessary. Audition monologues will be posted on Upright Theatre Company’s website prior to auditions. There will be no dance component at auditions, so once auditioners have been dismissed they are free to go.
Callbacks - Saturday, May 18th, 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Callbacks are invitation only, and actors will be notified if they are needed at callbacks via email. Not all who auditioned may be called back. Those who are not called back are still being considered for roles. Dance Callbacks will be Saturday, May 18th from 3:00pm - 4:00pm. Dress to move and wear jazz/tennis shoes. Vocal and Character Callbacks will be Saturday, May 18th from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Song cuts and scenes/sides will be made available prior to callbacks. Actors should be very familiar with the selections, but do not have to be memorized. Auditioners will know if they are cast by the end of Sunday, May 19th. ALL auditioners will be notified by the end of the day.
ALADDIN JR. AUDITION WORKSHOP:
Upright Theatre Co. will be holding an Aladdin Jr. Audition Workshop on Tuesday, April 30 from 5-7pm. During the workshop, Choreographer, Gina Gwozdz, will teach students a portion of the dance combination that will be used at auditions so that they will have time to practice in advance. They will also be able to bring their audition song and receive tips from our Director, Hayden Casey, on how to make their audition the best it can be! To Enroll, click here:

Production Materials Fee
Please note there will be a $125 Production Materials Fee for all cast members who receive a role in the production. This fee goes towards royalties, scripts, costumes, set and props for the production. ABOUT THE SHOW:
Disney’s Aladdin JR. is based on the 1992 Academy Award®-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within.
The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. With expanded characters, new songs, and more thrills, this new adaptation of the beloved story will open up “a whole new world” for young audiences!

Aladdin, a poor street urchin, longs to make his mother proud, but sometimes loses his way, the thief with a heart of gold, Male Presenting, Vocal Range: G2 - E4 (Only considering BIPOC youth performers)
Jasmine, the Princess of Agrabah, longs to experience the world outside the palace walls. Curious and assertive, she knows what she wants and craves the freedom to make her own choices. A young woman caught between her responsibilities to her people and to herself. Female Presenting, Vocal Range: G3 - E5 (Only considering BIPOC youth performers)
Genie is the fast-talking, fun-loving, scene- stealing wisecracker who lives in the lamp and yearns to be free, great comic timing and a flashy and fun sense of showmanship. Any Gender: Vocal Range: G2 - D#4 or G3 - D#5
Babkak, Omar, and Kassim are Aladdin’s three loyal and playful pals. Babkak is the Agrabahn foodie who loves to snack, kindhearted Omar has a sensitive soul, and stubborn Kassim yearns to be a leader, Any Gender, Vocal Range: G2 - E4 or G3 - E5
Jafar is the power-hungry and crooked Grand Vizier. Has a two-faced personality – loyal advisor to the Sultan and scheming villain – and delicious comedic moments with their lackey, Iago. Any Gender, Vocal Range: Bb2 - Eb4 or Bb3 - Eb5
Iago is the fawning and funny sidekick to Jafar with many sarcastic asides with comedic flair. Any Gender, Vocal Range: Bb2 - E4 or Bb3 - E5
Sultan, the warm-hearted ruler who dotes on his daughter, is committed to upholding the ancient laws of Agrabah. Male Presenting, Vocal Range: Ab3 - C4
Isir, Manal, and Rajah, Jasmine’s devoted attendants, keep the Princess grounded with their honesty and openness. Isir, whose name means “inspiration,” is optimistic; Manal, “achievement,” is assertively encouraging; and Rajah, “hope,” is the most protective. Female Presenting, Vocal Range: B3 - Eb5
Razoul, the rough and commanding head of the palace guards, answers to Jafar, Any Gender, Speaking Role
Prince Abdullah is one of Princess Jasmine’s haughty and arrogant suitors, Male Presenting, Speaking Role
Agrabahns are the citizens of Agrabah who help to create the bustling marketplace. Included in this ensemble are the following featured roles: The Beggars, the Apple Vendor who reviles the beggars from whom Jasmine unintentionally steals an apple, the Fortune Teller unwittingly helps Aladdin escape the guards in “One Jump Ahead”, the Shop Owner is a marketplace vendor from whom Aladdin steals bread, The Guards follow Razoul’s orders.

REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will begin May 20, 2024 and will generally be Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, with some additional Friday evenings closer to opening. Not all actors will be called for every rehearsal.
PERFORMANCE DATES: June 29-August 3, 2024 on Saturdays at 10am and 12:30pm with the possibility of additional performances July 1-3 at 10am and 12:30pm.
