UPDATE 9/29/23 - Due to unforeseen circumstances we must cancel the in person auditions for 9/29/23. Instead, we ask that you email a video submission to [email protected] of your song and three sides of your choice. Please state your full name and age before you sing. All auditions are due by Sunday October 1.
Upright Theatre Co. is holding youth auditions for their upcoming Junior Series production of Elf The Musical Jr. Auditions will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at Upright Theatre Company’s studio space in Euless, TX. Callbacks (if needed) will be on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 6pm.
To audition, artists are asked to fill out an online audition form and make an appointment using the links provided at the bottom of this page. Artists should bring their headshot and resume, along with a conflict calendar that can be found at the bottom of this page.
*Please Note: Actors must be between the ages of 8-18 years old to be considered for casting.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Actors should prepare 16 bars from a Broadway, Disney, or holiday song of their choice. No accompanist will be provided, so actors are asked to bring a CD or digital device with their accompaniment. Auditions will also consist of cold readings from the script, so artists are encouraged to be familiar with the material. Click here to view the audition sides.
Dance Auditions will be held at 6:15pm on Friday, September 29 so please be prepared to attend this portion of the audition in addition to your scheduled audition time. Actors will learn a brief dance combination and perform it in groups. Please bring clothes and shoes that you can move in.
ELF JR. AUDITION WORKSHOP:
Upright Theatre Co. will be holding a Elf Jr. Audition Workshop on Saturday, September 23 from 10am-12pm. During the workshop, Director/Choreographer, Jennifer Leyva, will teach students a portion of the dance combination that will be used at auditions so that they will have time to practice in advance. They will also be able to bring their audition song and receive tips from our Music Director, Noël Clark, on how to make their audition the best it can be! Production Materials Fee
Please note there will be a $125 Production Materials Fee for all cast members who receive a role in the production. This fee goes towards royalties, scripts, costumes, set and props for the production. ABOUT THE SHOW:
Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern-day holiday classic is sure to spread holiday cheer and make audiences young and young-at-heart embrace their "inner elf!"
ROLES AVAILABLE:
Santa Claus
Santa Claus has a lot on his plate during the Christmas season, and it is starting to show. He is annoyed with the Elves, tired of lying to Buddy and sad that people seem to be losing their Christmas spirit. He is still the same jolly old St. Nick underneath it all, but the job is getting to him. Vocal range: Bb3-D5
Buddy
Buddy is the perfect elf! He’s good-natured, he means well, and he’s happy all the time. There’s only one problem. He’s not an elf – he’s an adult human. Vocal range: B3-G5
Elves
The Elves are Santa’s special helpers who love their job making toys to meet their Christmas Eve deadline.
Charlie
Charlie is in charge of monitoring the other Elves, making sure every present is wrapped and every bow is tied.
Shawanda
Shawanda is a dependable and caring elf. She will do whatever she can to help out others, including Buddy, even though she accidentally reveals that he is a human.
Sam
Sam is one of Walter’s Office Staff who is in a bind at the top of the show.
Walter Hobbs
Walter Hobbs, Buddy’s real father, is so focused on keeping his job that he is not making time for his family. He can be stern and unemotional at times, but ultimately he learns to recommit to his family. Vocal range: B3-E5
Deb
Deb, Walter’s secretary, has the big responsibility of keeping her boss and the whole office happy. She does this by sharing her positive attitude with everyone.
Emily Hobbs
Emily Hobbs is Walter’s devoted wife who would prefer her husband to spend a little more time at home. She is a problem solver and an excellent mother who is doing everything she can to provide a positive family dynamic. Vocal range: G3-D5
Michael Hobbs
Michael Hobbs is the smarter-than-average 12-year-old son of Walter and Emily. He quickly befriends his new adult brother, Buddy, and does everything he can to make sure Buddy becomes a permanent part of the family. Vocal range: G3-D5
Security Guards
Security Guard #1 and Security Guard #2 are a stern duo from Walter’s office, making sure everyone who enters has permission.
Saleswoman
The Saleswoman is the first person to greet Buddy as he enters Macy’s. She’s the consummate salesperson: smiling, overfriendly, and always trying to sell something.
Manager
The manager is a terrific featured acting role for a performer with good comedic timing. As the manager of Macy’s, he’s doing everything he can to make sure all the employees stay in line.
Jovie
Jovie works as a store elf at Macy’s, but don’t be mistaken -- she doesn’t quite exude the Christmas spirit. She’s kind of cynical, a bit tough around the edges, and now the target of Buddys complete adoration. Vocal range: G3-Db5
Santa's Helper
Santa's Helper works as a Macy’s Employee and announces when each kid gets to visit with Santa.
Fake Santa
Fake Santa is a poor replacement for the real Santa. He’s an employee of Macy’s who is a bit rough around the edges.
Policemen
Policeman #1 and Policeman #2 are a friendly pair of cops who return Buddy to the Hobbs household.
Sarah
Sarah is a staff member at Walter’s office.
Mr. Greenway
Mr. Greenway is one of the crankiest businessmen around. He is the big boss with a commanding presence.
Chadwick and Matthews
Chadwick and Matthews are staff members at Walter's office who are doing everything they can think of to save the day and make their boss happy.
Charlotte Dennon
Charlotte Dennon is a TV reporter with a big personality. She does her best to keep her professional persona in public and doesn’t like being shown up.
Finale Soloists
Finale Soloists #1,#2,#3 and #4 are four strong solo singers. Vocal range: B3-B4
Darlene Lambert and Emma Van Brocklin
Darlene Lambert and Emma Van Brocklin are on the scene in Central Park and are convinced of Santa’s magic after Buddy reveals their past Christmas gifts.

REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will begin October 7, 2023 and will generally be Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, with some additional Friday evenings closer to opening. Not all actors will be called for every rehearsal.
PERFORMANCE DATES: November 18-December 19, 2023 on Saturdays at 10am and 12:30pm with additional performances December 1, 8 and 15 at 6p, December 18 at 10a and 12:30p, and December 19 at 10a.
*Please note there will be a $125 Production Materials Fee for all cast members that receive a role. This fee goes towards royalties, scripts, costumes, set and props for the production.
